Sorry I’ve been MIA! We have had a crazy week…full of good and unfortunately bad.  But today I’m focusing on the good.

We went on vacation for a few days…it was so nice. Funny thing is, when my husband told me we were gonna go, I thought he said June 20th.  You can imagine my surprise when he reminded me that we were leaving in just a week…Yikes!  Nevertheless, we had a great time.  I only have a few pictures…so I will post more later. But here’s a couple to look at.
He loved to swim! Loved the water….
Did not like the ocean…when I would put his feet in the water and a wave came, he’d cling to me and cry.  After trying several times to get him used to it, I decided to just hold him and look at the never ending ocean. Within minutes, Elijah was asleep…so not like him to just fall asleep on me. But that little guy slept for nearly an hour on the beach. The soothing sound of the ocean could have put me to sleep as well.  This was his first trip to the beach…maybe the second time we’ll be able to get in the ocean a little more, with a little less crying.
Tomorrow I will have many more pictures to share.

White is the new blue

Summer is almost here…Time for flip flops and tank tops!!!

Eric and I recently went shopping for some much needed shorts.  Needless to say I walked out with way more than shorts…ok not way more but with 2 tanks, sandals and of course my shorts!
I have been collecting pins on pinterest of outfits that i hope to acquire this summer. The biggest trend I’ve found so far is white jeans.  Love white jeans…not skinny jeans…but those cute white jeans with a little flare and of course a pair of cute wedges.
Found this and love it!
I love how most of the pins you find actually have a site where you can buy the items and how much they cost….though most times you’ll find me at Ross searching for look-a-likes at a lower price.
Whats your fashion go to this summer?

My #1 beauty must…

Ok so… There’s one thing about myself that I’ve failed to mention.

I am a licensed cosmetologist
That’s right I can officially cut hair, paint your nails, and give you a facial…as of 6 years ago that is. And I’ve never really used my knowledge or what little talent that I have.  I liked the job I had at the time and didn’t want to leave it to work in a salon. I was working with a youth ministry downtown.  We often had events for the girls and offered free makeovers, and had even bigger events for the entire city…there I actually cut hair…that was a huge but rewarding task.  I guess you could say most of my cosmetology career has been helping teens who can’t afford to have their hair done in a salon for prom or a special day, or moms who are busy being a mom, volunteering my services for church and ministry out reaches, and of course my family.
Over the years however, I have acquired a lot of information and tips.  One of which I am going to share with you today.
Everyone has their own style. Long hair, short hair, make-up, no make-up…but if there is one thing I could suggest that every woman does is (drum roll please)….
Wax the eyebrows!
It’s a simple thing that often gets forgotten (I too am guilty of neglecting the brows).  I personally have a hard time shaping my brows…but once waxed I can keep them shaped with tweezers For quite some time.  Getting your brows waxed is easy…. It takes 10 min…and that’s if there’s a wait and $8-10.  8 bucks that’s all!  Often times you’ll notice make-up artist will wear minimal make-up but always have their eyebrows in shape.  It’s a simple and yet profound beauty must!  Believe me…you won’t regret it.
Talk to your hair or nail gal and I’m sure if they don’t wax they can recommend someone who can.
What are your beauty must?

Wedding on a budget…

I have noticed lots of wedding planning happening lately and so I wanted to share my own experience with my wedding.  I am in no way a wedding planner or even know a lot about planning a wedding.  But I did plan my wedding on a very tight budget and I want to share how I did it.
My husband and I met in 2008.  We went on a couple dates before going our separate ways.  But then came June, 2011,  we were reunited…2 months later engaged…two months after that…married.  I know, you must be thinking I’m crazy! How on earth did she plan it, let alone afford it?  Well that is exactly what I am going to share with you today, how I pulled off a semi-formal wedding that cost $2,000 (dress included).
First things first….where to get married. Our first plan was to get married outside…possibly in someone’s backyard. That way we didn’t have to pay for a venue. However, we didn’t know anyone with a big enough backyard.
So on to plan B.  Though it would have been free of charge, our church would not be able to hold that large amount of people so it was out of the question.  My uncle however, is a pastor and offered his church to us for a fee of $350…that included the church, reception hall, wedding planner, and clean up crew!
Next was the dress…now for most, my dress was a bit unconventional.  Meaning it was knee length.
After trying on several full length, traditional gowns I decided to go with a knee length. I felt like I was drowning in all the others (since I stand not quite at 5 feet).  Believe me, my dream as a little girl was to wear a “princess” dress.  But flattering my figure out weighed that little girls dream. This dress we searched high and low for.  I finally mustered up the guts to order it online!!! Craziness, I know! But I told myself I could always send it back if it didn’t fit.  As soon as it arrived I tried it on.  It was the best $60 I had ever spent!  The shoes I found looked as though they were made for the dress and cost $40.
Since I have a genius graphic designer of a brother, he offered his services to develop our invitations. I showed him an idea of what we wanted and he created this…
 {for privacy purposes I blocked out the location}
The only cost to us was the printing. Instead of using the printing companies paper and envelopes, we found it cheaper to purchase our own.  For 250 invites we were able to purchase the invitations with envelopes as well as the RSVP cards (which I did as  postcards, pre stamped) for only $20 at Target.  To have them printed it cost us $30 at the ups store.  Which brought us to a total of $50.
I didn’t have an engagement ring…instead we just got one ring.  My ring we chose cost $300 and his $50.  Totaling $350.
Here is where it’s easy for me to just spend and spend.  We spent approximately $300 on  lights (which ended up not working in the end), table decorations, flowers, candles, the arch for the ceremony, plates, eating utensils, and cups.
Cost more than the dress.  His suit, shirt, tie, and shoes cost us $230!  But it was worth it.  He still wears the suit to this day.
Was free!!!  His family chipped in and provided all the food and beverages!
We chose to go with cupcakes and I’m so glad we did because they came out so well.  A friend of ours offered to make it for us.  They were delicious if I do say so myself and not just because it only cost us $60.
Isn’t she great?  All the pictures I’ve posted here are ones she took.  Becca is a dear friend of mine I have known for the past 20+ years.  She was just beginning her photography business at the time and needed a wedding for her portfolio.  Free of charge.  This girl knows her stuff! And always seemed to get my good side which is a huge plus when it comes to photographers.

So far this brings us to a totaling cost of $1,440.  Which leaves $560.  All of the prices are a rough amount not including tax and items purchased such as the ring barrier’s suit, groomsmen’s shoes, hair accessories, cosmetic products, thank you gifts, etc. And all other unexpected things purchased.
I can’t say it was super easy spending only $2,000 on a wedding. And it definitely wouldn’t have been possible if we didn’t have the help from all our family and friends.
The main thing is to stick with what’s important to you. If the dress and rings are important to you then get what you want. If its the venue…then spend a little extra for the one you love.  But be flexible in all other areas.  Go easy on the decorations in the church and focus on the reception hall.  Let your guests serve themselves.  Serve chicken instead of beef.  If you’re a DIYer than get creative and make your own decorations…make it a party and invite your bridesmaids to help.  Most importantly…use your recourses.  The people you know who are good at different things.  A lot of times they’ll charge a very small fee if any…I like to give them a small gift if they choose not to charge.
Have fun planning your wedding…it only happens once.  Don’t stress over the small stuff.  By the time my big day arrived, I didn’t even care anymore.  Let me know if you have any questions…I’d love to hear your feedback.

For all my low carb-no sugar friends!

For all my low carb-no sugar friends!

I found this recipe today while googling…low carb cream cheese recipes.  I had some cream cheese that was begging me to eat it. Love cream cheese!  All of the sweet recipes called for sugar. But since I hadn’t eaten dinner yet, this recipe was perfect!  It’s called Where’s The Crust Pizza.  Hers came out so much prettier than mine. Since I didn’t have enough mozzarella cheese I used a little bit of yellow cheese. And I didn’t have much for toppings except left over ground beef. So I seasoned the ground beef with a little garlic and voila!  It was delicious!!! Check it out…here’s the link

Who doesn’t love a great bag?

Love, love, love these things!!! They are great for storage…our apartment lacks storage space so I actually keep my towels in the Large Utility Tote.

I use one for Elijah’s toys
It even has his name on it just like his diaper bag.
(And yes, I did just take the picture in the car! Lol)
You know those sweaters you find…you love them so much that you buy the same sweater but in 3 different colors?  That’s how i feel about these bags, utility totes, wallets, etc.  I have quite the collection of these items…but there’s so many different patterns that I love, I  want the same bag in every pattern!  The best thing about them is that you can have your name or a phrase monogrammed on it for only $7!
Ok, ok, that’s all i’ll write about on this topic.  I just had to share. Their summer catalog just came out…you know what that means!!! Time to go shopping….check them out at
Make sure you pick Dawn as your consultant.  She’s wonderful and I love her to death…and not just because she’s my momma 😉

Long time no blog!

The worst possible thing happened…I don’t have Internet!!! (Ok it’s not the WORST thing, but It is a bloggers worst nightmare). Since the move we haven’t been able to get the Internet set up. I am blogging from my iPhone right now. It’s quite challenging.

While I’m here…lets get you caught up on juicing. It’s been going great. I’m actually really loving it. Anything with carrots and apples in it is my favorite…who knew I’d actually like my carrots! The best part…I fit into my pre-baby jeans!!! Yup..Wednesday I decided to try them on! Lets just say that made my week!!! If that’s not motivation, I don’t know what is. I haven’t weighed myself yet…and quite honestly I’m a little nervous to. We have been so busy lately I haven’t done much cooking. Not only have we been eating out but it’s been a lot of…none other than…Mexican food. So not good! However, we were so blessed to be given a bunch of groceries this week. So now, hopefully we can get back on track. Cross your finger

Sorry for the mess in the background…still packing

My latest project…

imageNot the best DIY project but I’m  happy with how it turned out. Since I’m unable to upload pictures from my computer I took a snap shot on my phone…sorry it’s not the best picture. This was my father in-laws old mirror with a plain wood border. I wanted to fancy it up a bit…what do you think?
